Scots schoolgirl writes adorable job application to Glasgow shopkeeper listing all her skills

A Scottish schoolgirl penned a heartwarming job application to a shop near her home - despite being just eight years old.

Plucky Sophie Wilson jumped at the chance to work at her local Londis store in Parkhouse, Glasgow, after spotting a help wanted sign in the window. The p5 Teresa’s Primary School pupil penned a handwritten CV to shopkeeper Manoj Bhardwaj.

Sophie pointed out she would be perfect for the role by including a list of her skills such as "good at counting and experience of cleaning my room".

Sophie wrote: "I am very friendly and I think I would be good for this job because I am good at counting and I have good timekeeping skills.

"I have cleaning experience as I clean my room and help my mum and dad clean and help them put the shopping (away) and I think I would be good at stacking the shelves.

"I would like to work on the till as I used to play shop keepers. I think this job position would be good for me as I am local. Yours sincerely, Sophie Wilson."

Sophie's mum Joanne McNaught and dad Paul Wilson said they were very proud of their daughter's initiative.

Joanne said: "We stay round the corner from the shop so she’s there every day, sometimes twice a day. She loves playing shopkeeper at home. When she visits the shop, she always asks if she can go behind the tills.

"When she saw the job advert, she started writing her application. Then she asked if we could go round and hand it in. Everyone loved it. We are very proud of her."

Owner Manoj Bhardwaj was so impressed he gave Sophie a Milky Bar for her efforts and promised her a job when she turns 16.

Joanne added: "She appreciated the Milky Bar but I think she was looking for a bit more! She'd be great at the job, she's a real wee character."

When Sophie was told her application had caught the eye of the Daily Record, Joanne said: "She couldn’t wait to get up to Londis to get her picture taken. She skipped into school the next morning and couldn’t wait to tell everyone."
