Scots schoolboy 'suddenly' dies as pupils offered counselling after tragedy

A Scots schoolboy has died 'suddenly' with fellow pupils being offered counselling following the tragedy.

It's understood the teen died suddenly in Orkney on Saturday afternoon, February 5.

The tragic youngster was a fourth-year pupil at Kirkwall Grammar School in one the islands' largest areas.

His death was confirmed by Orkney Islands Council on Sunday.

The local authority has said the school is taking steps to ensure pupils were supported following the tragedy.

Pupils at the school will have access to counselling and a psychology team if they need it.

Orkney Islands Councl said in a statement: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm the tragic and sudden death of a fourth-year pupil from Kirkwall Grammar School on Saturday afternoon.

"I’m sure you will join us in saying that our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with their friends and family at this unimaginably difficult time.

"Over the weekend Kirkwall Grammar School has been working with the Education Directorate and partner agencies to ensure steps are taken to support pupils as necessary.

"The Guidance team will be available throughout the day and additional support, including counselling and access to our educational psychology team, will be available from tomorrow morning and for the foreseeable future.

"Staff will be speaking with all pupils tomorrow and a space will be provided in school for those who need additional support.

"During this difficult time the school will remain open and function as normally as possible."
