It takes a lot to shake the typically grounded residents of Glasgow - but the sight of the famous Duke of Wellington statue without its signature cone has left many reeling.
Scot Michael A MacLeod (@MAML84) shared a photo on Twitter of the statue on Sunday morning (June 26), looking very naked, and people were not happy. In the post, which has had hundreds of retweets and thousands of likes, he wrote: "Glasgow - we have a situation."
One follower couldn't believe their eyes, writing: "Must be photoshopped." While another added: "That's just no right. The guy's naked. Somebody do something, quick."
One person simply wrote: "The end of civilisation is nigh."
Even former Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament Tricia Marwick wasn't happy, she responded: "Glasgow, this is not acceptable. Sort it." A person on Facebook even jokingly tagged the First Minister, writing: "Nicola Sturgeon, what's the process in this new state of National Emergency? Scotland is in shock."
Another joked that it was "worse than no ravens at the Tower of London".

Even non-Scots were getting involved with Irish woman Colette O Toole posting: "Thoughts and prayers from Ireland lads."
The statue has been used to mark everything from Scotland standing with the people of Ukraine, through to commemorating our close ties with the EU after Britain officially left in January 2020.
An almost constant battle between the Council, who wants to remove the cones, and students and revellers over the decades has seen the cone become something of a symbol of pride for the city.
In fact, plans in 2013 to raise the statue to stop cones being placed on its head were stalled after a massive public outcry from local residents.

Thankfully, user @ImperfectProduct confirmed normal service had been restored less than 24 hours later - so we can all rest a little easier tonight.
