Scots pub boss pours two rare ‘one in a million’ cans of clear Irn-Bru

A Scots pub boss is feeling lucky after cracking open two cans of clear Irn-Bru despite there being ‘one in a million’ odds.

Barmaid Joanne Hanlon was serving her employer at the Boar’s Head in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, two weeks ago when they made the first shock discovery.

After pouring the diet Irn-Bru into a glass, the duo were stunned to find the iconic orange colour was missing - but that the sugar-free fizzy drink still tasted exactly the same.

After contacting manufacturers AG Barr, landlady Margaret Divers was told that the rare phenomenon was caused by an issue with the inside of the can.

But the business owner has now been told to ‘buy a lottery ticket’ after opening a second can of clear diet Irn Bru on Thursday, May 5.

Employee Joanne, 35, said: “I was serving my boss a can of diet Irn Bru a couple of weeks ago. But when she opened it up, it was completely clear.

“I was shocked. I asked if it was fizzy, which it was, and when I tasted it, it tasted the exact same - it just had no colour in it. When I first looked at it, I thought ‘is that water’?

“She contacted AG Barr and asked if she had won some sort of competition because we’d never heard of this happening before.

“She drinks Irn Bru all the time and has never come across this. They replied and said it was a one in a million chance of this happening and that it’s very, very rare.

“They sent her out some coupons. But then today, she texted me to say she had opened her second can of clear Irn Bru. I’ve told her to put the lottery on.

“Apparently it’s something to do with the inside of the can and all the colour gets sucked out or something like that.

“It’s so weird that it has happened twice to her in a fortnight.”

AG Barr has been contacted for comment.
