A pilot showed his solidarity with Ukraine by tracing a supportive message in the sky.
Derek Pake from Prestwick, South Ayrshire, wanted to do his bit after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy begged for support from other nations as the Russian invasion rages on.
Derek, an air traffic controller, took to the skies on Friday in his Van’s RV-8 plane from the Isle of Bute.
His friend sat in the backseat holding a Ukrainian flag.
He'd found “Slava Ukraini” translates as “Glory to Ukraine” and at around 3.30pm, the aircraft began tracing the letter “s” in the sky above the Kintyre peninsula, STV reports.
In around 45 minutes the message was traced and appeared on air traffic control maps.
Derek took to social media to share his efforts on Saturday.
He wrote: "President Zelenskyy asked for global show of support for Ukraine after a month of the oppressive war waged by that c**t Putin
"WeeVans RV, myself, and Bob Smith did just that today with an aerial show of solidarity. SLAVA UKRAINI - Glory to Ukraine."
Derek slammed the invasion of Ukraine as a 'travesty' and hopes a lot of people saw his skywriting.
“It’s a travesty what’s happening to the people out there. Hopefully lots of people can see it." he said.
“It’s difficult to know what we can actually do. We can provide relief, send money through charities, provide support for refugees when they get here. Everybody does their little bit."
Derek shared images of his mission on social media over the weekend.
And followers praised his efforts in their droves
Madeleine Humphryswrote: "Really loved this display."
Ian Finlay added: "Well done Derek, fantastic love it."
Gill Howie commented: "Outstanding gents, well done."
