A car hit several parked vehicles on the street before mounting the pavement and colliding with the pedestrian as it crashed into the shop window.

The 86-year-old victim was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital near Kilmarnock with serious injuries.

She has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medical staff describe her condition as critical.

The 74-year-old male driver of the vehicle was uninjured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.

The road was closed at the time to allow crash scene investigators to carry out enquiries.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans, from Road Policing, said: “Main Street was pretty busy on Saturday afternoon and I am appealing to members of the public, who were in the area around the time of the incident, to contact us with any information.

"It’s vital we have all the facts so we can continue to piece together the full circumstances of what has happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland, quoting incident number 1650 of 28 May, 2022.
