A coma survivor has slammed the love-rat OAP who she claims squandered her life savings and started dating another woman while she lay in hospital. Lynda Grant, 63, was left single, penniless and in debt after her three-year relationship with William Dunn, 69.
She says the match.com pensioner playboy sent more than £110,000 of her money to a woman he later married after meeting both on the dating site. Former nurse Lynda spoke out after Dunn was cleared of embezzling the cash following a trial at Paisley Sheriff Court.
The jury heard he had been granted power of attorney over Lynda, giving him control over her finances as she spent time in hospital and a care home due to complications stemming from an operation. He began dating bus company boss Karen Dolan, 59, while Lynda was in a coma and went on to marry her.
But they split up before their first anniversary, amid claims that he had been cheating on her. Lynda said: "We were together three years, it’s not like we were together for just a few months. If it had been six months then I would have understood and just thought to myself, ‘You’re a silly bugger for trusting him’.
"But it wasn’t a brief fling. I’m more hurt he would do that to me. I don’t really know how I feel about the money being gone. It hurts more that someone could be that cruel and have an affair with someone else. What the hell is wrong with him?”
Dunn, of Elderslie, Renfrewshire, denied a charge of embezzling £112,971.46 from Lynda’s bank accounts and NHS pension, claiming he had invested it on her behalf while she was ill. The retired builder claimed in court the money was given to Karen as a short-term loan for her coach firm Colchri Ltd.
He said the “investment” would help reduce Lynda’s assets below £16,000 so she wouldn’t be liable for care home costs and was to be repaid with interest of 3.5 per cent. But Lynda hasn’t got a penny back. She said: “He’s made me look a fool. I don’t remember anything about being in the hospital.
"I don’t remember signing the power of attorney. I feel the money is tainted. I’ve got a new life now and just want to get on with it.
"William also claimed my pension which I didn’t know about. I feel sorry for Karen Dolan. But if it was me, I’d be saying how sorry I was. Even if I couldn’t pay it back, I would still apologise."
