Scots mum learning to walk again woke up unable to feel her legs weeks after horror crash

A Scots mum is learning to walk again after waking up unable to feel her legs weeks after a horror car crash.

Debby Morgan, from West Calder near Livingston, was left with soft tissue injuries after the accident just days before Christmas.

But weeks on from the smash, she woke up devastated to discover she couldn't walk or feel anything from the waist down.

Debby has since been in hospital while doctors investigate the injury - but so they far only know she has swelling on her spine, reports Edinburgh Live.

Debby said: "I had plans from January that I was going to get really serious about upping my fitness game, but that was taken away from me after the accident.

"The first three weeks I was very painfully and slowly moving about while being treated for soft tissue injuries - but I woke up one day to find I couldn’t move or feel from the waist down.

"I’ve sustained some temporary spinal injuries and I’m now having to learn to walk again, which I will.

"Determination is fuelling me right now."

Debby has praised the brilliant care she has received since being admitted to both the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and St John's in Livingston.

The inspirational mum misses her kids but she remains determined to learnt to walk again.

She said: "The first five days in hospital were so hard and sore but yesterday was the day of being on a high.

"There's been tears, down moments and moaning to the amazing nurses who - even though are so busy, rushed off their feet, exhausted themselves - actually sit and listen.

"It’s the getting angry at yourself, the not knowing how long till you get home [which has been difficult].

"I miss my kids so much. It’s been a week since I’ve seen them to hug them - but I'm just glad for video calls.

"Last night, after an amazing day, I actually felt pretty unwell. The pain is intense and it can really catch you out.

"It’s just part of the journey, because no journey is ever in a straight line.

"There is going to be more days like this - but these days don’t win.

"I feel like crap today but I did what I had to do. I got up, had a wash, got dressed and said, 'I’m going to find my win today. I’m going to smash my physio.'

"The doctors have still not actually found what’s causing me to not be able to feel from hip down, or walk. The only thing that is showing is a bulging disc. All we know is the pain is in my spine."
