A Scot has died after being run over by a tram in Barcelona. It is understood the 57-year old man was near the city’s retail centre where Pet Shop Boys were playing a gig when the tragedy happened.
Witnesses told how emergency services were alerted at about 11pm on Wednesday after the pedestrian was hit. City hall sources said yesterday afternoon the victim was a middle-aged Scot.
The information backed up local newspaper reports confirming his age and nationality. It was unclear whether the victim was a tourist or an expat living in the city.
The incident occurred near the Parc del Forum, where Pet Shop Boys performed on the opening night of the Primavera Sound 2023 music festival. A person with the victim, whose age and nationality has not yet been revealed, has been receiving psychological assistance.
TRAM Barcelona tweeted: “TRAM would like to send its condolences to the family and friends of the man who died in last night’s tragedy.”
An FCDO spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a man who died in Spain and are in touch with local authorities.”
