Scots M&S shoppers delighted as store opens in Glasgow Queen Street station today

Scottish commuters are buzzing after it was revealed that a new M&S store at Glasgow's Queen Street train station will open its doors this morning.

The new store was teased last month after signage showing the supermarket's prime location at the busy station was shared on Twitter. Now, ScotRail has confirmed that the M&S Food Store will officially open its doors at 10am this morning and teased an appearance of a 'Mr P Pig' to greet the first customers.

Located next to the Dundas Street entrance, M&S says the new food outlet is designed with people on the go in mind.

It will offer a wide range of products from fresh, convenient, food and drink options with self-service checkouts for those looking to grab a quick snack for the train. Shoppers will also have the chance to grab bakery items and fresh flowers later on.

ScotRail took to Twitter on Thursday morning to confirm the opening: "Later this morning, a new M&S Food will open at Glasgow Queen Street. It's right next to the Dundas St entrance and a certain Mr P. Pig will be there to greet the first customers @marksandspencer."

News of the stores opening has already went down well with quite a few Scots travellers on Twitter.

"Finally", said one commuter.

"Was waiting for this to open, are yous going to announce the tesco express that replaced the co-op beside Central too?", said a second.

A third tagged their friends with the looking emoji and simply wrote: "xxxxx."

Margaret Hoey, ScotRail General Manager at Glasgow Queen Street, said: "We're delighted to welcome Marks & Spencer into Glasgow Queen Street, and I know our customers are equally excited about the opening of the new M&S Food outlet.

"Whether people are travelling for business or leisure, M&S offer a fantastic range of products for all. Providing customers with high-quality retail is a key part in the railway’s continued recovery from the pandemic and will enhance our customers’ experience."

Last month, a first look of the location shared by ScotRail Managing Director, Alex Hynes, was met with excitement on social media.

The Glasgow Queen Street M&S Food Store is set to be pen between 6:30am-10pm on Monday to Saturday, and 7am-10pm on Sundays.
