SCOTLAND dislikes Donald Trump more than the rest of the UK – and seven in 10 Scots have a low opinion of his right-hand man Elon Musk.
New polling has found that 71% of Scots have an unfavourable view of Trump, with just 18% liking him.
That’s compared with 57% of people across Great Britain which have an unfavourable view of him, with 25% of people saying they like him, according to Ipsos.
Researchers also found that 70% of Scots have an unfavourable view of Musk (below) – the tech billionaire who is leading Trump’s efforts to gut the federal government – with just 12% of people liking him.
Emily Gray, managing director of Ipsos Scotland, said: “These findings show that the Scottish public hold a broadly unfavourable opinion of Donald Trump – even more so than the British public overall do.
“While Donald Trump has said he accepts King Charles’s invitation to meet at either Dumfries House or Balmoral Castle to discuss a second state visit to the UK, these results suggest that his visit will not be a welcome prospect for many in Scotland.”
No date has been fixed for Trump’s second state visit or his trip to Scotland – but the move is controversial.
Petitions have been launched to articulate opposition to the prospect of another Trump visit – which became politically explosive after the US president publicly berated Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House last week.
