A Scottish Labour MSP has slammed a Red Wall MP for defecting from the Conservatives to Labour ahead of Prime Minister's Questions.
Mercedes Villalba took to social media to hit out at Christian Wakeford who moved to the Labour benches just 10 minutes before PMQs.
Wakeford, MP for Bury South, said the country needs a government that "upholds the highest standards of integrity and probity" but told Johnson "both you and the Conservative Party as a whole have shown themselves incapable of offering the leadership and government this country deserves".
The North East Scotland MSP tweeted: "Consistently voted against measures to prevent climate change.
"Consistently voted against measures to reduce tax avoidance.
She tweeted: "Consistently voted against measures to prevent climate change.
"Consistently voted against measures to reduce tax avoidance.
"Consistently voted for a stricter asylum system.
"This is not the voting record of someone fit to be a Labour representative."
Villalba was not the only voice not welcoming Wakeford to the party.
The Young Labour organisation tweeted: "Christian Wakeford MP should not be admitted to the Labour Party.
"He has consistently voted against the interests of working-class people; for the £20 universal credit cut, for the Nationality and Borders Bill and for the Police and Crime Bill. Young Labour does not welcome him.
"Christian Wakeford himself co-sponsored a bill mandating by-elections for MPs who change party affiliation.
"The Labour Party must uphold Bury South members’ right to choose their own Labour candidate and constituents should be able to reassess their MP."
Meanwhile, the left-wing Momentum campaign group said Wakeford "should be nowhere near the Labour Party".
A Momentum spokesman said: "Christian Wakeford has voted with this hard-right Tory government almost 400 times in just two years - voting against measures to stop climate change and tax avoidance and against enabling domestic abuse victims to have access to benefits.
"He should be nowhere near the Labour Party and the decision by Starmer to accept him is an insult to the millions of working people who want to see a fairer country.
"Wakeford should be booted out of Labour and a by-election called immediately. Labour must back a candidate that will stand up for the people of Bury South and against this Tory government."
A Labour spokesman said the party had been in talks with Wakeford for "some time".
Asked if he could be more precise, the spokesman added: "A while." He said the contact pre-dated the Downing Street party allegations.
The spokesman said: "As he says in his letter today ... there are a number of issues that he's highlighted in his letter, whether it's the cost-of-living crisis or the Government's failure on levelling up, that have led him to this decision. It's a decision that he's been thinking about for some time."
He added that Sir Keir had met with Wakeford personally on Monday evening.
