Scots killer who murdered mum and daughter has second appeal denied

A man who killed a woman and her two-year-old daughter before burying their bodies under his kitchen floor has lost his had his latest appeal against his conviction quashed. Andrew Innes, 53, was found guilty of murdering Bennylyn Burke, 25, and Jellica Burke after a five-day trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

During the trial, the court heard that the twisted killer stabbed and beat Bennylyn to death with a hammer before strangling Jellica at his home in Dundee. He lured Bennylyn from Bristol after targeting her through a dating website in 2021.

He was jailed for a minimum of 36 years in February for the killings. Appeal judges on Tuesday refused his second application to overturn his conviction.

The BBC reports that this latest refusal has effectively ended the case. Innes previously had an appeal thrown out at the High Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh in May by a judge who decided there are no “arguable grounds” for an appeal.
