Scots journalist Eve Barlow who has been Amber Heard's 'rock' through Johnny Depp libel trial

A Glasgow journalist has been the “new rock” in Amber Heard’s life during her ongoing libel trial against Johnny Depp.

Eve Barlow has been at the side of the actress at court throughout the $50 million proceedings, and even found herself at the centre of the drama at one point when she was chucked out for tweeting in front of the judge.

The 36-year-old hails from Giffnock, in the southside of Glasgow, and is a former deputy editor of NME who now lives in LA.

She’s been spotted out and about with her good friend, Aquaman star Amber, and her new baby, Oonagh, and she hasn’t been shy about making her feelings on the high profile legal case known.

The Mail reports friends say the pair have formed a strong bond recently, with the Scot regularly sitting with her famous pal’s legal team on the front benches of the court.

Page Six reports they have been “inseparable”.

One source, a friend of the two, told the Mail: ”Eve has been a huge support to Amber during the trial. She is an open person and has spoken proudly about their relationship.”

Barlow has been spotted at the Virginia court throughout the trial and regularly tweets about what Heard is going through.

She got into trouble from the judge last week when she was found to be texting and tweeting from the front row of the court, and was asked to leave.

Page Six reports, according to court transcripts, Judge Azcarate said: "She was tweeting live from my courtroom … and I know the deputies took her out because she was texting. That’s against the court order. Ms. Barlow is not coming back into the courtroom during this trial.”

Eve has shown her support to her friend on her social media channels, where she’s got hundreds of thousands of followers - with 46,000 on Instagram and 49,000 on Twitter alone.

In one Tweet, she said: "The horrible truth is that people love dead victims more than living ones. People are mad that Amber Heard survived.”

She has also publicly blasted women who support Depp in the legal battle, and has said on Twitter they are driven by “envy” and their “own low self esteem”.

She said: “It’s easy for women with low self-esteem to hate AH [Amber Heard] or justify their prejudice towards archetypal feminine strength/beauty by denying their envy of it,

“They perceive an afforded power that’s truly a myth, and excuse their own inefficiency at being resilient against misogyny.”

When she was 28, Eve moved to LA after seven years at NME. She wanted a change and has since said it was “one of the best decisions” she ever made.

Depp, 58, is suing Heard, 35, for defamation over a 2018 opinion piece she wrote for the Washington Post about surviving domestic violence.

Depp claims his ex fabricated abuse allegations in an attempt to score a huge divorce settlement, which has damaged his career.

Heard, who was married to Depp from 2015 - 17, is adamant she told the truth and has countersued Depp for $100 million.

After moving to LA, Barlow’s career went from strength to strength and she was soon getting bylines in the likes of New York Magazine, Pitchfork and the Los Angeles Times, and she interviewed stars like Billie Eilish, Liam Gallagher, Sinead O’Connor and Alanis Morissette.

She’s a self-confessed and proud ‘zionist’ on Twitter who regularly speaks out about anti-semitism.

Barlow’s dad, George, is a GP who was made an MBE for healthcare.
