A Scots family fled an Egyptian hotel amid fears of a terror blast only to learn it had been caused by faulty air conditioning.
Alistair Fields, 42, and his wife Jennifer, 42, and four children were at the pool area when they heard what sounded like an explosion at Parrotel aqua resort in Sharm El Sheikh.
The city was the site of a terror attack in 2005 when bombings killed 88 people, including 11 British victims.
Alistair, of East Kilbride, said: “There was some kind of explosion with debris flying metres away from us. It was very loud.
“Panic set in. Two staff members ran by and we asked them if it was a bomb. They said, ‘Yes, yes, bomb, bomb’. About half an hour later staff told me an air con system exploded.”
A Sun International rep moved them to another hotel and they were given a refund of £1679, but they wanted compensation for the trauma suffered on the £6150 all-inclusive holiday.
Sun International blamed a broken air con compressor. The Fields’ travel agent, On The Beach, was asked to comment.
