VOTERS face “no choice at all” between Labour and the Conservatives at the next election, the SNP have said.
Tommy Sheppard, the party’s Scotland spokesperson, said both Labour and Tory conferences had failed “to present a clear and positive vision for the future”.
His comments come after Labour's conference closed on Wednesday and Keir Starmer gave his keynote speech to the party faithful the day before.
The Tory conference, held in Manchester last week, saw Liz Truss gather a substantial crowd at a fringe event which some observers felt overshadowed party leader Rishi Sunak.
The Prime Minister announced the cancellation of the HS2 extension to Manchester in his speech, proposed a phased ban on tobacco sales and suggested ending English A-levels in favour of a new set of qualifications.
Starmer on the other hand pledged Labour would build 1.5 million new homes and increased investment in green energy capacity.
He also invited disillusioned Tory voters to join Labour, saying his party "fights for our Union, our environment, the rule of law, family life, the careful bond between this generation and the next".
But Sheppard (above) told The National Scots were being offered “more of the same” without independence.
He said: “Tory and Labour conferences mirrored one another with their repeated failure to present a clear and positive vision for the future - showing how urgently we need the full powers of independence.
“More of the same is the opposite of what ordinary people, who’ve seen their bills, mortgages, and food prices rise beyond control, need at this sorry time.
“Instead of offering any solutions to this crisis the two parties instead used their stalls to set up a very grim choice for voters at the next General Election.
“The idea people in Scotland should be compelled to pick at every UK General Election between which of two terrible right-wing parties should govern from Downing Street is no choice at all, and underlines how farce this broken system is.
“In Scotland we know we need an end to Tory rule – but the alternative question that should be put to people in Scotland is do we want rid of them for five years, or forever with independence?
“At the next General Election, only the SNP are standing to deliver real cost of living support, to defend our NHS, to make Scotland’s voice heard and to deliver a real alternative to the broken Westminster system.”
