Scots fugitive Derek McGraw Ferguson now one of Spanish cops 'most wanted targets'

Spanish police have made Scots fugitive Derek McGraw Ferguson one of their most important targets.

The missing murder suspect has been named as the first person on Spain’s Most Wanted list.

The 58-year-old was already one of the National Crime Agency’s most-wanted over the fatal June 2007 shooting of father-of-three Tam Cameron in the car park of the Auchinairn Tavern in Bishopbriggs near Glasgow where he worked.

Now Ferguson has been named as one of Spain’s ten most-sought-after fugitives alongside the likes of a Bulgarian drugs trafficker, a leading cash counterfeiter and a Belgian arms trafficker.

Spanish police confirmed today they believed Ferguson, from Possil, Glasgow, could be in the country as they appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesman said of the bald-headed Scot: “He could have had a hair transplant or be using a wig.”

He also reminded the public Ferguson had part of his left ear missing but could have undergone plastic surgery to correct the identifying feature or got rid of tattoos on his left arm of a heart, arrow and dagger.

Spain’s National Police said in a statement on his inclusion in their Most Wanted list: “He is dangerous and could be armed."

As well as the murder of Tam Cameron, Ferguson has also been linked to the death of his suspected accomplice Billy Bates whose lifeless body was found inside a petrol drum in the River Clyde weeks later.

The fugitive is believed to have escaped Scotland in a car boot.

He was one of the 18 faces that appeared on giant posters Crimestoppers displayed on the Costa del Sol and Alicante in 2015 as part of Operation Captura.

New computer-generated images of what Ferguson might look like now were released last year and a POUNDS 5,000 reward offered by UK police for information leading to his arrest to coincide with the 14th anniversary of Mr Cameron’s murder.

Officers said at the time they believed the fugitive had travelled between Ireland, Portugal, Holland, Turkey and Spain under an assumed name, but thought he may now be based in Spain among criminal associates.

Detective Superintendent John Wyllie, leading the investigation, said: “I am continuing to appeal for anyone who has any knowledge of Ferguson’s whereabouts to get in touch with any information which could help us trace him.

“Since 2007, we have carried out extensive inquiries and I am certain that the commitment and tenacity of our officers and our partner agencies will result in Ferguson being found.”

Also on Spain’s Most Wanted list alongside Ferguson are Manuel Bellido Moreno, described as the country’’s most important cash counterfeiter who has been sentenced to nine years in prison in his absence.

Other suspected killers on the list include Ramon Saavedra Lopez, accused of strangling his boss to death after forcing his way into his home because he owed him £170.
