Scots family's motor stuck inside faulty car wash for nine days after wife and daughter trapped

A husband has hit out after his wife and daughter were trapped inside a car wash leaving his motor stuck there for nine days. The rollers at Morrisons’ car wash in Newlands, Glasgow, went haywire, battering Kenny Macfarlane’s Honda CR-V on both sides and clamping it in place.

His wife and daughter were unable to open their doors and had to escape from a rear door. Photographer Kenny said: “It all happened in just a few seconds – a huge bang and then whack, they didn’t know what was happening.

“It had started and was normal until the brushes reached the side. There was a huge bang on the passenger side and the car got thrown across the car wash and smashed into the driver’s side.

“The big pillar on the right smashed through the drivers’ door and pinned the car. The pillar on the left has sheared and it’s come flying across and battered the car.

“It was like being in a collision. The car jumped through the air. It ended up embedded in the big pillar.”

Kenny said his wife and daughter were left traumatised and claimed the store have said it’s up to him to move the car.

He said: “They were sitting in the car freaking out, screaming, wondering what was happening and thinking, ‘someone must know we’re here’, but nobody did.

“Our daughter climbed over the seats and got in the back, got out and went into the shop. She then had to get her mum out over the seats.

“She was in shock, she could barely walk. My wife had quite violent trembling and had to get diazepam from the doctor to calm her down.

“An engineer went to the store, the ones who do the service and maintenance, and said he couldn’t do an inspection while the car was there.

“I’ve been told the store can’t do anything for me to get it moved. They said it’s down to me.”

Kenny has lost work without his car.

A spokeswoman for Morrisons said: “We are currently investigating the matter. Our colleagues and legal team have been polite, courteous and professional.”
