Scots family close business after death of teenage son who was hit by car

More than £10,000 has been raised to help the family of a Glasgow schoolboy who died after being knocked down by a car.

Artian Lushakuy, 13, died in hospital on Thursday, May 18, after being struck by a red Toyota Aygo on Balmore Road four days earlier.

The sports-daft teenager, who died two days before his 14th birthday, was described as a "beautiful young soul". His parents have been forced to close their business until further notice following the tragedy.

Close friends are now fundraising to help keep the family-run Artrez Cafe on Saltmarket afloat. Bosses posted on social media to say the cafe would be closing due to a family emergency, thanking customers for their support.

Generous well-wishers have rallied round to donate more than £10,000 in a matter of days, sending dozens of messages of condolence, reports Glasgow Live.

The JustGiving page reads: "On May 14 the world lost a beautiful young soul, Artian Lushaku. Artian's enthusiasm for life, inquisitive nature and kind heart had a lasting effect on everyone who knew him...and indeed to many he met only briefly.

"He will always be remembered with smiles and happy memories. Artian was known by many in our community, particularly through his love for sport and from his time in school - at Dunard Primary school and most recently at Cleveden High School.

"All our thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking time are with his loving family. As those closest are aware, Artian's parents have, in recent years, established a successful family-run cafe in Glasgow.

"With that in mind, we have set this page up to allow family and friends or any others in the wider community who would like to make a contribution which will help to release the additional burden of stress related to the closure of the business at this very difficult time."

His funeral was held in Glasgow Central Mosque on Friday with a balloon release in his memory set to take place today, Saturday, on what would have been Artian's 14th birthday.

The memorial will take place at Dunard Park in Maryhill at 1pm on Saturday with those attending encouraged to wear blue or red colours. To donate to the fundraiser, click here.
