Scots dad scoops £60k on Michael McIntyre's gameshow The Wheel and makes history

A dad-of-three scooped £60,000 on BBC gameshow The Wheel and became the second Scot to walk away with a cash jackpot.

IT manager Alan, from Edinburgh, made gameshow history after becoming the first contestant to answer all seven subject categories correctly by himself on Saturday night's show.

The game show, hosted by Michael McIntyre, sees contestants, selected by chance, compete for an opportunity to win a cash prize with help from celebrity guests.

Alan was quizzed on questions on the weather, TV show Neighbours and Andy Murray's Wimbledon win before scoring the £60,000 jackpot.

The dad-of-three revealed he was a keen sportsman - golfer and curler - and told of how he was born without his left hand, showing his prosthetic hand to the audience.

When Michael asked Alan what he would do if he won, the IT worker had the audience in stitches when he quipped he would like to get a "flight to space" or a "final resting place".

A shocked Michael responded: "A grave? I've asked so many contestants what they would do with the money, I've never had those

Alan later clarified: "It maybe came out a little bit wrong, I was thinking of a forever home!"

Michael congratulated Alan on his magnificent win and said: "No one has ever done it.

“You came up and said you’d buy a coffin and we all said this guy isn’t going to last long, literally. But you’ve stayed here to the end, you’ve cleared the whole wheel and you’ve won £60,000. An incredible winner.”

Alan said he was absolutely stunned by his win and had hoped to be able to pay for a new kitchen - but now he plans to buy a new home with his wife Ruth when his three children Jamie, Ross and Emma move out.

He added: “I genuinely can’t believe it. Is this real?”.

Alan's win follows on from fellow Scot Helen Mason, an oncology nurse from Edinburgh, who walked away with £82,000 after winning the jackpot with just one correct answer with the help of Rangers legend Ally McCoist.
