Scots council who manage Clyde FC's stadium 'reviewing partnership' after David Goodwillie return

North Lanarkshire Council is reviewing their partnership with Clyde FC in light of David Goodwillie's move back to the club.

The council manage Clyde FC's stadium.

It was confirmed Goodwillie, 32, would return to Clyde on loan from Raith Rovers today until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The controversial move comes after major public outcry and a backlash from Raith Rovers supporters and sponsors after the club signed him earlier this year.

Following a U-turn from the club, Goodwillie is now back at Clyde on loan but this has also sparked outrage among fans and politicians.

North Lanarkshire Council has since released a statement following the news and said they 'utterly condemn' violence against women.

The statement said: "In light of Clyde Football Club’s announcement confirming the return of David Goodwillie, we are reviewing all our commercial partnership arrangements with the club.

"We will announce the outcome as soon as all information has been considered and communicated directly with the club.

"The stadium had previously been under the management of North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, a separate entity to the council, but is now directly under council control.

"The council utterly condemns all and any violence towards, or abuse of, women. We offer a range of services to support women who experience abuse through Rape Crisis Lanarkshire and Aura and we would urge anyone in this position to make contact."

In 2017, Goodwillie was ordered to pay damages in a civil court after he was ruled to have raped a woman, six years after he was initially charged.

He was on the bench for Clyde tonight in the Glasgow Cup match against Rangers.

A statement from Clyde FC said: "Following an initial approach by Raith Rovers, and subsequent agreement between the two clubs, we can confirm that David Goodwillie has returned to Broadwood on loan until the end of the 2021-22 season.

"This enables David to return to first team activities including training and playing and, in doing so, continue his career in football at the current time."
