Scots British Airways flight destined for London makes 'priority landing' after technical issue

A British Airways flight issued a mid-air alert shortly after leaving Glasgow. The passenger plane, which was destined for London, issued a 7700 alert signalling an onboard emergency at around 11.49am on Friday, January 27.

The flight path of the BA9275 shows the plane currently circling near Manchester. It had left Glasgow Airport at around 11.28am today and was due to land at London Heathrow Airport at 12.14pm.

The emergency ‘Squawk 7700’ alert was issued shortly after crossing into England. A 7700 Squawk code is the signal used by airlines when there is an incident which requires ground assistance but the plane is already in the air.

The airline has since confirmed that no customers were on board and the alert was issued as a precaution due to a 'minor technical issue'. Radar Box shared the alert on social media.

A British Airways spokesperson told the Daily Record: "Our pilots requested a priority landing in Manchester as a precaution due to a minor technical issue, and the aircraft landed normally."
