Scots actor Gianni Capaldi brands former co-star Mickey Rourke 'total scum'

Scots actor Gianni Capaldi has called his former co-star Mickey Rourke "total scum" for praising disgraced film director Roman Polanski this week.

Capaldi, of Hamilton, recently starred in the film Commando with Rourke but slammed his actions over Instagram after the Hollywood star shared a post gushing over Polanski, who was convicted over unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

In Rourke's post he said it was a "great pleasure" to work with the Polish-French film director, writer and producer and admitted he "can’t wait" to collaborate again.

The post sent Rourke's Instagram followers into meltdown with many unfollowing the star.

It also led to co-star Capaldi calling him out on the social media platform. He posted to his 20.9K followers: "Seriously @MickeyRourke?? Praising Polanski!? He's convicted of drugging and raping a 13 year old and you praise him? TOTAL SCUM."

In 1977, Polanski was arrested and charged with drugging and raping the young teenage girl. He pleaded guilty at the time to the lesser charge of unlawful sex with a minor, but before he could be sentenced in the US he fled to Paris, and remains a fugitive of the US criminal justice system.

Despite his conviction and more accusations of sexual assault coming to light, Polanski has continued to create films and receive awards, most recently working with Rourke on the as yet unknown project.

Lanarkshire's Capaldi is currently at his Las Vegas home working on several upcoming projects including new action thriller King of Killers, starring Frank Grillo and Stephen Dorff. He also recently completed A Day to Die alongside Hollywood legend Bruce Willis and Kevin Dillon.
