SCOTRAIL is set to axe an early morning train service running between Elgin and Inverness due to “low demand”.
The rail operator has said it will withdraw the 7.18am service from Elgin next month.
Service along the route which run at 6.56am and 7.43am will continue to run, now with three carriages.
ScotRail bosses have said the changes will allow them to reintroduce a late night train service at 11.12pm from Inverness to Tain on Friday and Saturday nights. This service operated prior to the pandemic.
ScotRail service delivery director, Mark Ilderton, said: “We’re excited to introduce these timetable enhancements, which will offer greater flexibility for evening travellers.
“Everyone at ScotRail is working hard to deliver a safe, reliable, and sustainable rail service that provides a positive experience for our customers.
“The reintroduction of this late night service on a trial basis will make it even easier for customers to get where they need to go, and choose rail as their preferred mode of transport.”
