ScotRail issues scam warning as 'fake account' poses as rail operator

SCOTRAIL has said a “fake account” is trying to scam people by posing as the rail operator.

In a statement posted on Twitter/X, ScotRail urged people to stay alert and that it would never ask people for bank details or to send money through social media.

It said: “There’s a fake ScotRail account trying to scam people. Our only username is @ScotRail and our only WhatsApp account is 07555 012345. Anything else is a scam.

“We’ll never ask for you to send us bank details or make a money transfer via social media.”

Elsewhere this morning, ScotRail urged people to take care on platforms amid the cold weather.

“We’re keeping stations gritted, but your platform may still be a bit slippy this morning – please take care,” it said on Twitter/X.

We previously told how Scotland is facing a cold blast with black ice and frozen pipes set to potentially affect thousands of households.

Temperatures dipped to -8C at Altnaharra in the Highlands over the weekend while much of Scotland is to face below-freezing temperatures, according to WXCharts data.
