SCOTRAIL has issued an update after severe weather led to disruption across Scotland's railway network on Wednesday.
The operator said that Storm Gerrit had now cleared and is “moving away from Scotland” although a number of routes are still disrupted.
It also confirmed that tickets dates for Wednesday December 27 would be valid on December 28 and 29.
Anyone planning on travelling has been encouraged to stay up to date through the operator's app, website and social media.
A post at 7.10am on Thursday morning confirmed the following routes are currently closed:
- Aberdeen-Glasgow/Edinburgh
- Edinburgh-Dundee
- Aberdeen-Inverness
- Inverness-Wick/Kyle of Lochalsh
- Glasgow-Oban/Fort William/Mallaig
- Helensburgh-Dumbarton
- Largs-Ardrossan South Beach
- Kilmarnock-Dumfries
The Scottish Government’s Resilience Room met on Wednesday evening amid the extreme weather to ensure appropriate measures are in place to deal with the impact of the storm.
A major incident was declared by Police Scotland on the A9 at Dalnaspidal on Wednesday afternoon.
Speaking on Wednesday night, ScotRail’s chief operating officer Joanne Maguire said: “ScotRail and Network Rail teams have been working flat out to keep people moving where possible, but we have faced extreme conditions in different parts of the country which has resulted in significant disruption.
“The safety of our staff and passengers is our top priority. We will be working overnight and early in the morning to inspect the railway and restore services, but disruption is expected to continue into Thursday.
“Our advice to passengers is to check before travelling via the ScotRail website or app.”
