ScotRail issues Calvin Harris fans travel warning ahead of Hampden Park gig

Calvin Harris is set to perform at Hampden Park this weekend following an impressive line up of recent singers.

Following the likes of Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran and Liam Gallagher, Dumfries's own Calvin Harris will be taking to the stage with a stadium ready for over 50,000 people on July 2. But with ScotRail running a temporary timetable, gig-goers have been issued a travel warning ahead of the concert.

After previous gigs at Hampden, some fans found themselves stranded as public transport has been cut with some organising their own mini bus to pick them up. But ScotRail are supplying a small number of trains out of Glasgow, and there will also be buses available depending on where you are going.

ScotRail have reminded ticket holders that while extra carriages will be fitted on trains between Glasgow and Mount Florida, there will be no trains coming back from Mount Florida and limited services out of Glasgow Central. No rail replacement is being organised and fan are also urged to arrive at Hampden in plenty of time.

In a statement, the travel provider said: "Trains from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida - the closest station to Hampden - will have extra carriages, but these services will be very busy, so please plan ahead. The gates at Hampden will be open from 4pm, and we'd encourage you travel to the stadium early if you can.

"When heading home, we urge you to check your journey and know your travel options, as there will be no trains departing Mount Florida back to Glasgow Central after the concert finishes due to the temporary timetable currently in place. There will also be a very limited number of trains out of Glasgow city centre after 11pm. These are:

  • 11:17pm Glasgow Central to East Kilbride
  • 11:21pm Glasgow Central to Gourock
  • 11:22pm Glasgow Central to Stirling
  • 11:30pm Glasgow Central to Ayr
  • 11:45pm Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley

"Please be aware that space on board these services is limited, and no rail replacement transport is available, so check your journey and know what alternative modes of transport are available. We'll have a queuing system in place at Glasgow Central prior to the concert. To reduce the need to queue on the day, we'd encourage you to buy your train ticket to Mount Florida in advance via the mTicket system on the ScotRail app."

While there are no trains after the gig from Mount Florida, there are buses near by. The 75 bus leaves Aikenhead Road at 10.37pm and arrives back in Glasgow City Centre around 11.04pm. At 10.46pm, the seven bus towards Summerston will take you back to Glasgow Central station for 11.23 and the 75 will run again at 11.07pm.
