ScotRail forced to close key line due to 'gas leak'

SCOTRAIL has been forced to close the line between Bathgate and Edinburgh Waverley due to a gas leak.

In a post on Twitter/X, ScotRail said the line was shut due to a “gas leak near Livingston North”.

Network Rail Scotland meanwhile said works were ongoing to repair the leak but that it did not have a timescale for when the line might reopen.

ScotRail also provided an update for any commuters who might be impacted by the closure.

It said: “We have buses running between Bathgate and Edinburgh Park in both directions.

“We have ticket acceptance in place with Edinburgh Trams between Edinburgh and Edinburgh Park.”

A new update posted shortly after 10am by Network Rail said: "It's unlikely that the railway will reopen between Bathgate and Edinburgh Waverley until at least mid-afternoon.

"@SGNgas are working to repair the gas leak in Livingston ASAP. We have no an operations manager on site representing the railway."
