ScotRail is to expand its travel safe team following a recruitment drive.
The rail operator is looking for 24 officers, three supervisors, and one safeguarding manager.
Once complete, this recruitment will make permanent the current temporary team of nine, adding 19 new posts to make it a team of 28. Following the selection process, ScotRail hopes to begin the phased introduction of the new team members in the autumn.
ScotRail’s travel safe team was introduced in October 2021 and have been working closely with British Transport Police to support customers and colleagues in the promotion of a safe railway environment, both on the train and in stations.
The Lennox previously reported on the partnership between ScotRail’s travel safe team and BTP on services between Balloch and Glasgow in a bid to stamp out antisocial behaviour.
Ben Doran, ScotRail head of safety risk and assurance, said: “Our travel safe team have done an excellent job in promoting a safe railway environment, and I’m really looking forward to expanding on their great work.
"We’ll continue our close working relationship with British Transport Police, which includes involvement in multi-agency initiatives, to engage with, and educate people on unsafe behaviours on the rail network.”
