ScotRail chaos to continue for another month as trade union votes on deal

A bitter dispute that has crippled rail services could be nearing the end after a trade union gave the thumbs up to a revised pay offer.

The Executive of train drivers union ASLEF endorsed a 5% offer that will now be put to members in a ballot.

However, the final result will only be known on July 11th, meaning the chaos on the service will likely continue until then.

A pay row led to drivers not on rest days, which led to the publicly-owned ScotRai l reducing services.

However, ASLEF negotiators approved the 5% offer and further progress has been announced today.

ASLEF’s Scottish Regional Organiser Kevin Lindsay: “Following a meeting of ASLEF's National Executive Committee today it has been agreed that the package of pay and conditions improvements negotiated between the union and ScotRail will be put to all members in a ballot.

"The Executive is recommending members accept the deal.

“ASLEF is a democratic, lay, member-led union, therefore it is right that the train drivers of Scotland decide whether or not to accept this offer. Ballot papers will go out next week and the result announced on the 11th of July.”
