ScotRail announces new timetable with Ayrshire service to have just two trains running on Sundays

Ayrshire Sunday train services will be cut on a new timetable – with some routes operating just two services.

A new temporary timetable comes into force this Sunday with ScotRail cutting more services in the region over a pay dispute.

ScotRail say they have been forced into reduced timetables due to a ‘significant’ amount of drivers working refusing to work overtime or on rest days.

It comes after temporary timetables for Monday – Friday and Saturday saw scores of services reduced across the board.

Services set to be hammered are the South Ayrshire routes between Ayr and Stranraer.

Just two services will be in place going each way on Sundays as opposed to five previously.

The first service from Ayr to Stranraer won’t leave until the afternoon at 1.06pm with the last service heading to stops such as Maybole and Girvan at 6.05pm.

The timetable will also see last services from Glasgow Central back to Ayrshire slashed.

Meanwhile there continues to be no services to Kilmarnock.

ScotRail bosses say they hope the new timetable will provide ‘reliability and certainty’ for passengers.

Crunch talks are still ongoing between them and drivers union ASLEF after the union rejected a pay offer put forward by the Scottish Government owned rail operator.

David Simpson, ScotRail service delivery director, said: “We’re sorry to customers for the disruption on Sundays over recent weeks so this temporary timetable will provide greater certainty and reliability for customers.”
