SCOTRAIL has been ranked amongst the UK's most reliable train operators in a new study.
According to analysis by the travel firm GetByBus on the data from the Office of Rail and Road on the performance of 24 rail operators over the last five full rail financial years the Scottish travel operator is ranked in the top 10.
Researchers studied five factors to help find the most reliable train operators which included the percentage of trains on time, trains arriving within three minutes, trains arriving within 15 minutes, trains fully cancelled and the total delayed minutes per 1000 kilometres travelled.
Analysts weighed each metric equally and ranked each operator based on an overall reliability score out of 100.
ScotRail was ranked seventh in the UK for reliability, beating other operators like the London Overground and the Great Western Railway, according to GetByBus.
With a score of 87 out of 100 Scotrail ranked among the top nine in all five categories and was narrowly pipped from sixth place by Heathrow Express which scored an 88.
Analysis showed that approximately 99% of ScotRail’s services arrive within 15 minutes, the fifth-highest figure in the study.
Meanwhile, 71% of trains are on time, and minutes delayed per 1000km travelled were around 19.
Caledonian Sleeper was ranked 16th in the study while Avanti West Coast came bottom of the standings at 24th.
C2c, which serves commuters in East London and South Essex, came first with a score of 99.
