Scotland has enjoyed settled and mild weather conditions in recent weeks - but heavy rain, wind and snow is on the way.
This New Year was the warmest on recored with much of the country experiencing temperatures in the double figures as we entered 2022.
But there is set to be a change in weather shortly.
This week, much of the country will continue to see settled conditions with the odd shower, reports The Met Office.
Forecasters expect fresh southwesterly winds today across central Scotland as well as up in areas of the Highlands.
Temperatures remain mild for this time of year with nine to 10C throughout the country this afternoon, reports The Met Office.
Tonight will see minimum temperatures of around 4C, above average for Scotland in January.
However, conditions are set to become a little more unsettled with up to 12 inches of snow falling within weeks.
Here is a look at this week's forecast as well as what to expect as we finish the first month of 2022.
Weather forecast this week
By the end of the week, most of the central belt is set to see heavy rain with blustery conditions throughout.
The Highlands will face strong to gale force northwest winds on Thursday, accompanied by showers.
A windier and wetter start for the north on Friday as showers arrive from the west with some gale force winds possible, The Met Office reports.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: "It will turn very briefly colder on Thursday and as conditions move south it will bring showers with it.
"Across England and Wales it will remain largely dry for the week, there will be more in the western areas of Scotland."
Otherwise, a fine and dry end to this week as conditions settle across the south.
There will likely be some patchy rain overnight with a dip in temperatures seeing some frost with morning fog in patches, the Met Office forecasts.
Next week's weather
Rain showers are likely at times for the north and northwest in the remainder of January, with occasional strong winds.
Weather website WXCHARTS is anticipating heavy snow the land on large parts of the northwest from January 31.
As we head into February there is a real difference in conditions between the northwest and south east.
Southern and eastern areas are likely to see light to moderate winds while winds will be stronger elsewhere.
Temperatures likely to be close to average in the south, whereas milder in the north, trending above normal.
The Met Office reports that there is an increasing likelihood of more widespread unsettled conditions as we enter next month.
Widespread wintery showers are expected from February 3.
A blanket of snow is forecast to remain in the country the following day, with up to almost 12 inches of the wine stuff expected in areas of the western Highlands.
Temperatures could also dip to well below freezing on February 4 - with a low of -9C forecast for parts of the Highlands, reports The Met Office.
