Scotland vs Ukraine set for final decision this week as SFA 'strongly opposed' to UEFA solution

Scotland will discover the fate of their World Cup play-off showdown with Ukraine this week, according to a report.

Steve Clarke 's side are preparing for the delayed semi-final showdown at Hampden with the winner to square off against Wales for a place at Qatar.

Record Sport revealed in March that June had been earmarked for a rescheduled date after the original fixture was postponed due to Russia's brutal invasion.

And the Daily Mail report the dates being discussed in the coming days are Tuesday, May 31 or Wednesday, June 1, with the winners to take on Wales in Cardiff on Sunday, June 5.

Both semi-final dates, however, come with pros and cons.

The May 31 date would grant the winners more time to prepare for the final, but it's said Clarke is concerned over captain Andy Robertson's potential involvement in the Champions League Final on Saturday, May 28.

Furthermore, Bournemouth's Ryan Christie and Nottingham Forest's Scott McKenna could be involved in the Championship play-off final on Sunday, May 29.

Delaying the fixture until June 1 would soften any such impact but would potentially tighten Scotland 's schedule at the other end if they they have one fewer day to prepare for a trip to Cardiff.

It's said SFA chief Ian Maxwell has travelled to UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, to thrash out the details.

Scottish football's governing body are said to have lodged "strong opposition" to any notion of combining the play-off semi-final and a scheduled Nations League clash with Ukraine on Tuesday, June 7 into a single fixture.

Doing so would reportedly cost the SFA £1.5million.
