A SCOTTISH broadcaster has revealed it will air the opening match of the 2024 UEFA European Championships between Scotland and hosts Germany in Munich.
On June 14, 2024, the opening match between Scotland and hosts Germany in Munich will, for viewers in Scotland, air exclusively on STV and STV Player.
STV will also show England’s final Group game against Slovenia and will have picks one, two and three of the Round of 16, as well as first pick of the semi-finals. Plus, the channel will cover the winner of Play-off A, which could be Wales, against Austria, in Group D on 21 June.
STV will also show what is likely to be one of the most anticipated early tournament games – the Group B match between Spain, who are among the favourites, and Italy, the holders.
Among STV’s Group stage coverage are games featuring many pundits’ favourites, France (against Austria on 17 June), as well as other heavy-hitters in Portugal (v Turkey on 22 June), Croatia (v Spain on 15 June) and Belgium (v Slovakia on 17 June).
STV has secured joint rights for the final match with the BBC, which has also announced plans to show Scotland’s Group games against Switzerland (19 June) and Hungary (23 June) and England’s first two Group games against Serbia (16 June) and Denmark (20 June).
All STV games will be shown on STV and STV Player, as well as ITV and ITVX for viewers outside of Scotland.
Bobby Hain, Managing Director of Broadcast at STV, said: “As if the excitement of Scotland qualifying for another European Championship isn’t enough, it’s fantastic to know that Scotland fans will be able to enjoy every nail-biting minute of their opening match exclusively on STV and STV Player.
“Having the opportunity to show Scottish sport free-to-air on our channel is hugely important to us, and we know the country will be united in front of their TVs to watch the national team’s Euro 2024 journey, as well as every other thrilling moment of the tournament, next summer.”
