Scotland Under 21 squad announced as Doak and Doig bring star power and Abdulai provides intrigue

Scot Gemmill has named his Scotland Under-21 squad for a friendly double header this month and there is no place for Newcastle United midfielder Elliot Anderson.

The national team boss will take his young chargers to Spain to play Sweden and Wales at the Pinatar Stadium. Gemmill's side will face the Swedes on Thursday, March 23 and then take on the Welsh on Sunday, March 26. Both games are being used as preparation for the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers which are due to get underway later this year in September.

Anderson has already played for the Scots but is believed to be wanted by England. The 20-year-old was born in Whitley Bay and represented the English at various youth levels. However, he made the switch to dark blue - eligible through his grandmother - and has one Under 21 cap for Scot Gemmill’s side. Liverpool's Ben Doak has been included in the squad while Swansea City star Azeem Abdulai is a new addition.
