Scotland to sizzle in 25C sunshine as 'hottest day of year' set for this week

It's set to be a beautiful week in Scotland for weather as temperatures are set to reach a sizzling 25C - the highest in the UK.

Scots were treated to some scorching weather over the bank holiday weekend, and it looks as though the good conditions will continue over the coming days.

According to the Met Office, the hottest day of the year is set to take place on Tuesday, May 30, which will see temperatures climb to the mid-20s for certain parts of the country. Scotland will also boast the highest temperature in the whole of the UK on this day.

Met Office forecaster Dan Stroud told the Daily Record: "We're expecting the continuation of fine, dry and settled weather over the next few days. Cloudier across the east of Scotland, but we are expecting temperatures to climb steadily as we move through the next couple of days.

"We'll probably be seeing 25 degrees across the north-west of Scotland during the course of Tuesday, which would make it the warmest day of the year so far, not only for Scotland but for the rest of the country as well."

The Met Office has also highlighted that there'll be a stark contrast in weather conditions between the east and west of the country that will continue for most of this week.

Posting an update on Twitter, the forecaster said: "High pressure stays over the UK throughout the week. The northeasterly breeze will begin feeding cloud into eastern coasts.

"The best of the sunshine will be further west, helping it to feel warm.

"The cloud will spread inland overnight, but will burn back to eastern coasts during the day."

These scorching temperatures might be good news for sunbathers or anyone else that wants to get out and make the most of the weather, but it doesn't come without its risks.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service has recently warned that there could be 'very high risk' of wildfires due to the temperatures hotting up, issuing an alert that is in place until the end of the Monday.

Eastern, Central and Southern Scotland are covered by the warning, with people in these areas urged to take extra care thanks to a build-up of dead grass and heather left over from last year.
