Scotland to play France in glamour friendly as Tartan Army trip confirmed

Scotland will play France in their final fixture of 2023, it has been confirmed.

Steve Clarke's national team will travel to Lille for the glamour friendly against the 2022 World Cup finalists on Tuesday, October 17.

Ticket information for the fixture at the Decathlon Arena has not yet been released by the Scottish FA but the fixture is scheduled for an 8.45pm kick-off (local time).

The friendly will take place just five days after Scotland play Spain in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

Scotland and France have played each other 16 times with each nation taking eight wins from the previous encounters.

A Scottish FA update confirmed: "Scotland’s final fixture of 2023 has been confirmed, with Steve Clarke’s side set to play 2022 FIFA World Cup finalists France in an international friendly match this October.

"The Scotland squad will play Les Bleus at the Decathlon Arena in Lille on Tuesday, 17 October, kick-off time 8.45pm (local time).

"The friendly fixture will take place five days after Scotland take on Spain in a UEFA EURO 2024 qualification match.

"Clarke will be aiming to continue the momentum that his players have built in the past year in the match – Scotland are now unbeaten in their past six competitive fixtures and currently sit top of their UEFA EURO 2024 qualification group after two victories in their first two fixtures of the campaign.

"Scotland’s record against France is delicately poised, the two nations having played on 16 occasions, garnering eight wins apiece since they first met in 1930.

"Scotland won the first two meetings between the sides, a double from Scotland legend Hughie Gallacher giving Scotland a 2-0 victory in Paris in May 1930, while a Neil Dewar hat-trick secured a 3-1 victory in Paris two years later.

"Scotland secured a famous double over France during the qualification campaign for EURO 2008:  Gary Caldwell stabbing home to earn a 1-0 victory at Hampden in 2006, before an iconic 35-yard strike from James McFadden earned a famous victory for Scotland in the Parc des Princes in 2007.

"Ticket information for the match will be released in due course."
