A yellow warning for ice has been issued for Ayrshire.
The cold snap will see icy patches spread across the region.
Temperatures are set to plummet today with lows of -6C to hit.
A Met Office weather warning is in place between 4pm on Thursday into 12am on Friday morning.
Residents have been advised of a potential risk of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
Commuters have been warned of possible disruption due to the frosty conditions.
Police in Ayrshire have warned that icy patches could be likely on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
Officers have also warned motorists of the dangers of the deep freeze and have been urged to avoid harsh braking/ acceleration and to use the highest gear possible.
A spokesperson for Ayrshire Police Division said: "The Met Office have issued a yellow warning of ice for East / South Ayrshire 1600hrs Thursday 8/12/2022 - 1200hrs Friday 9/12/2022.
"Icy patches are likely on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
"If travel is essential, adjust to the conditions. It can take ten times longer to stop in snow and ice. Use the highest gear possible to avoid wheel spin. Avoid harsh braking / acceleration."
The Met Office warning reads: "Frequent wintry showers are likely to fall on frozen surfaces in places, leading to the formation of icy patches.
"These showers are likely to fall as snow on high ground, with the potential for several centimetres to accumulate over parts of southern Scotland, Northeast England and the North York Moors."
