Scotland suffer heavy defeat to England at Netball World Cup

Scotland suffered a heavy defeat at the Netball World Cup, going down 62-37 to England in Cape Town.

The Scottish Thistles had won one and lost one going into this match but as the world number ten side, they were the heavy underdogs against the world number three team, England.

With Scotland coached by former England internationalist, Tamsin Greenway, there was an extra edge to this match and in the early stages, the Scots kept the score tight, with England leading only 14-9 after the first quarter.

However, the Scots’ disappointing shooting accuracy of just 72 percent in the first two quarters seriously hurt them and the English began to show their class, reaching half-time 31-19 ahead before ultimately running out comfortable winners, despite a spirited performance overall from the Scots who had 52 percent of possession throughout the match.

The defeat means Scotland has finished third in Group B but will still progress to the next group stages, which begin today.
