Scotland snow forecast names full list of areas caught in four-day weather warning

The Met Office has named the areas that could get the most snow over the next four days, as many parts of Scotland have been placed under a yellow weather warning.

The northeast has already seen wintery conditions arrive as Aberdeen has woken up to a thick blanket of the white stuff - and there could be more to come.

The Met Office has warned that even lower areas in the northeast could expect some 5cm of snow early this week, while higher areas could see more than 20cm. But by Thursday, most of Scotland will be enveloped in a snow warning as the Arctic blast continues.

Elsewhere in the UK, the Met Office have said that snowy conditions this week could reach as far south as northern England and Northern Ireland.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri said: "Snow, ice and low temperatures are the main themes of this week’s forecast, as the UK comes under the influence of an arctic maritime airmass as cold air moves in from the north.

"Snow is already falling in parts of the north where some travel disruption likely, as well as a chance of some rural communities being cut off."

The weather expert adds that Ice could provide an "additional hazard" for many with overnight temperatures dropping well below 0C for many.

As for the latter parts of the week, Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said the areas that would be most impacted aren't yet known, and that more warnings are likely to arrive.

He said: "Through Thursday and Friday the snow risk spreads to central and northern areas of the UK, though it’s not possible to pick out precise locations regarding who will see the heaviest snowfall.

"With a developing situation, it’s important to stay up to date with the latest forecast and further warnings are very likely."

"Upland areas, especially in the mountains, can see conditions change very rapidly and they may be markedly different from surrounding lowland areas."
