Scotland sees rapid change in temperature following cold snap

SCOTS are starting to feel warmer after experiencing a period of cold weather over the last week.

It comes after a series of weather warnings were issued across Scotland in the last week, as snow, wind, rain and ice battered the country.

We told how the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) issued a series of flood alerts on Monday after temperatures were predicted to move above 0C, meaning ice and snow will start to melt.

One area in Scotland has seen a particularly dramatic change in temperature, as Altnaharra in the Highlands recorded a 28C difference in the last 48 hours.

The Met Office said the village experienced a temperature of -18.9C on Saturday morning, which has since risen to 9C.

The average low in northern Scotland for this time of year is about 0.3C.

Temperatures have risen elsewhere in Scotland, averaging at around 11C across the country on Monday.

There are no longer any weather warnings in place, with temperatures expected to stay at a similar level throughout the rest of the week before beginning to drop.

The Met Office said that north-west Scotland can expect some wet and windy weather, with conditions overall remaining mild.
