Scotland’s suspension scare: Key players must tread carefully in first-leg showdown

Scotland head into tonight’s UEFA Nations League play-off first-leg clash against Greece knowing that seven key players - including captain Andy Robertson - are walking a disciplinary tightrope.

Robertson, along with Anthony Ralston, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Grant Hanley, John McGinn, and Kenny McLean, are all one yellow card away from suspension.

If any of them are booked this evening, they will miss Sunday’s decisive second leg at Hampden Park.

Scotland are trying to avoid relegation into Section B of the Nations League.

Manager Steve Clarke will be relying on his experienced players to guide Scotland through the first leg without jeopardising their availability for the return fixture.

McTominay and Gilmour’s control in midfield, McGinn’s work rate and knack for an international goal, and Robertson’s leadership at left-back will all be crucial as Scotland look to take an advantage into the second leg.
