Scotland's 'newest rural retreat' named one of the best hotels for Christmas

SCOTLAND'S "newest rural retreat" has been named one of the best hotels in the whole of the UK for a Christmas break.

The list from The Week magazine featured hotels from across the country, including spots in places like Bath, Gwynedd and London.

Why this rural retreat in Scotland was named one of the best hotels in the UK for a Christmas break

Penicuik Estate in Midlothian was the rural retreat in Scotland named one of the best hotels in the UK for a Christmas break by The Week.

Discussing the location and its inclusion on the list, the publication said this hotel, which is located 10 miles south of Edinburgh, is the country's "newest rural retreat".

It said the location offers a "quiet Christmas for those who wish to be surrounded by nature" and solitude.

The original Penicuik House, which is currently being converted into a 16-bedroom space, was apparently a "celebration of Scottish craftsmanship of the 18th century."

On the wider Penicuik Estate, there are "beautiful, self-catering cottages" with wood burners, roll-top baths and private outdoor terraces.

For those looking to book a stay over the festive period, the Penicuik team can arrange hand-delivered food services or invite a local private chef to cook Christmas-inspired meals.

There are also a number of nearby walking and cycling trails in and around the Pentland Hills, making the location ideal for lovers of all things outdoors.
