Scotland's Home of the Year focussed on stunning properties in the North East and Northern Isles on Monday night but left viewers at home with mixed reactions.
Judges and interior designers Anna Campbell Jones, Banjo Beale, and architect Michael Angus viewed an impressive Victorian renovation in the village of Old Meldrum, near Aberdeen. The stone built cottage with modern extension and a spacious garden is home to Kelly, husband Scott and children Ollie, Lola, Libby and Ritchie.
Their quirky home showed off their personal style as it featured a slew of up-cycled elements, like a petrol pump light, giving a nod to the garage business previously run by the family.
The second home that the judges and viewers at home saw was Snowdrop House, a contemporary building close to St Cyrus in Aberdeenshire. The modernist structure, which is home to property developer, Ross, has a box-like design with multiple views out to the surrounding countryside.
The final home in this category was Skeir A Lidda, a self-build project in St Mary’s, Orkney. Home to Lesley, husband Erik and Newton the dog, Skeir A Lidda has stunning views across Orkney thanks to the huge wall of windows at the front. The interplay of sea and sky was the couple’s design inspiration.
Viewers took to Twitter after the episode aired and shared their thoughts on the properties showcased. One said: "Bugger me! The most expensive, Modernist house wins. AGAIN. #shoty."
Another said: "Love love love house #2 Not easy to make a newbuild not just like an IKEA room but this is beautiful #Shoty Hope the judges give it their usual 1000/10."
A third added: "#shoty I enjoy Banjo Beale immensely but am very much missing the gentle tone and cadence of Kate Spiers. The relationship between the original three was satisfyingly uplifting. They harmonised delightfully."
A fourth penned: "How much does it cost to heat these open plan houses in remote rural areas in Scotland? Maybe the judges should take this into consideration #ClimateCrisis #shoty."
