Scotland's favourite fish and chip shops named by our readers

Now that summer is practically here, it is peak fish and chip season — especially as June 2 is National Fish and Chip Day.

Whether you're at the beach with friends or taking it back home, nothing beats a chippy on a warm summer evening. It is no secret that Scotland is home to some truly stunning eateries, but all of that choice can make it difficult to know where is worth heading.

Therefore, we decided to reach out to our readers so that they could have their say. Back in March, we put up a poll asking the public to submit their favourite chippies in the country.

Now, we have the results. In no particular order, we have compiled a list of the seven fish and chips shops across Scotland that received the most votes.

The first chippy to be named is Tailend in St Andrews, an award-winning seafood restaurant and takeaway located in the scenic town's Market Street. Popular among golfers, tourists, students, and locals alike, it prides itself on its fresh seafood and local produce.

Next up is Anstruther Fish Bar, which overlooks the town's harbour. Describing itself as "one of Scotland's best-loved dining destinations", the chippy serves up delicious dishes such as Prawn & 'hot-smoked' Salmon Salad and Dressed Scottish Crab in a spectacular setting.

Salt N Vinegar in Dunfermline is the third chippy chosen. Found on Allan Crescent in Scotland's newest city, one reader described it as a "hidden gem", noting the "amazing" portion sizes that "can feed two people".

The next chippy to be selected by our readers is Blue Lagoon Fish & Chips in Stirling, which one person called the "best chip shop ever". With a varied menu and friendly staff, you are sure to get on well there.

The Fish Hoose in Thornton is next up, and is a great destination if you're in Fife at any point this summer. The multi-award-winning chippy sources its produce sustainably, with its menu prepared and cooked on the premises so you know it's fresh.

The penultimate fish and chip shop to be chosen is The Fish Works in Largs, a family-run business in a relaxed environment that offers stunning views of the Firth of Clyde. While the whole menu is worth checking out, one of our readers singled out the "amazing" crab and chips.

Finally, The Seaforth in Ullapool is the last chippy selected by the public. As well as the large portions and "very good tasting" food, it includes a patio with harbour views to soak up some sun on those long summer evenings.
