SO Graham Spiers thinks no one saw Scotland’s dire performance coming. I did. I wrote as such after their unconvincing win in Greece. I said they were very lucky to escape a heavy defeat and it was only the opposition’s lacklustre shooting that spared Scotland’s blushes.
Everyone in the Scotland camp bears responsibility for the defeat at Hampden. I’ve watched Scotland since the 1960s and after a long period where they continued to fail to attend major tournaments, I thought we had the beginnings of a workman-like side – not any more than that. I haven’t changed my opinion.
More defeats are on the cards and the only question is how heavy are they going to be? What ails Scotland’s national side? I wish I knew.
I feel sorry for the fans who have stuck with them. I moved on from being one many years ago!
