Scotland's defensive woes continue with McKenna latest injury blow

SCOTLAND are set to be hit with another defensive problem for their Nations League double-header with Croatia and Portugal after Scott McKenna suffered a hamstring injury.

Steve Clarke's side have been missing injured trio Kieran Tierney, Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson with long-term setbacks while Greg Taylor, Liam Cooper and Jack Hendry all didn't feature in the squad for the defeats to Poland and Portugal last month.

Now Las Palmas stopper McKenna has been laid low with a hamstring injury suffered during training and looks extremely doubtful to make the matches in Zagreb and Glasgow.

A statement from the La Liga club said: "Scott McKenna has a muscle injury in his left hamstring, which occurred during the training session held at the Ciudad Deportiva.

"The time he will be out depends on his reactions to the injury."

McKenna has been involved in Scotland's last six games and has started the last three of them including the 1-0 defeat to Hungary in the final game of Euro 2024 in Stuttgart.

The former Aberdeen stopper has made five appearances for his new club in La Liga so far.
