Scotland's 'coolest places to live' named in top 50 UK list

The top 50 "coolest places to live" in the UK have been revealed, including a number of popular Scottish destinations.

Four neighbourhoods in Scotland are featured in the public poll, which was conducted by CBD company Naturecan. Leith in Edinburgh is the highest ranking of these areas, coming in at number seven.

A buzzing port district in the north of Edinburgh, Leith is one of the capital's most historic and iconic areas. With the original harbour dating back to the 14th century, it has served as the port of the city for hundreds of years, and has seen visits from many travelling Kings and Queens such as Mary, Queen of Scots and King George IV.

Today, Leith has a distinct character that feels different to any other part of the city. It is home to both longtime locals and newer creative types, and is a unique hub of food and drink spots, as well as cultural activity.

The second Scottish location to appear on the list is the West End of Glasgow, which ranks at number 12. This leafy and trendy part of the city is popular amongst young people, and not just because the University of Glasgow lies in the heart of it.

This area of the city is home to many of its most important cultural and culinary hotspots, from the Riverside Museum and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum to Great Western Road—which includes more buzzy restaurants, bars, and venues than you'll know what to do with.

Following behind at number 27 on the list is Rosemount in Aberdeen. As well as a number of traditional premises such as butchers, fishmongers, cheese shops, and bakers, this bustling quarter also has plenty of independent stores selling all kinds of merchandise.

There's not just shopping on offer in Rosemount, however, with other highlights including Victoria Park—the first public park in Aberdeen—the colourful sensory garden, and many restaurants and cafes.

Finally, coming in at number 33 out of 50, is Broughty Ferry in Dundee. This residential suburb not only offers a varied selection of pubs and restaurants, but is also home to the fascinating Broughty Castle and Museum, where you can learn more about the area's history and its people.

Known as "The Jewel in Dundee's Crown", Broughty Ferry is also one of Scotland's most popular waterfront destinations. Once the weather warms up, it is well worth a visit to check out its seafront esplanade and award-winning golden sands.
