SCOTLAND recorded its coldest night of the year so far as temperatures plummeted as low as -15.6C in Braemar in Aberdeenshire.
A yellow warning for ice and snow is in place in the north of Scotland until midday with the cold snap expected to last for 10 days.
The Met Office is also warning of ice and fog around the Solway Firth in Dumfries and Galloway.
The cold weather has led to a number of school closures across the Highlands while commuters have also faced disruption.
ScotRail has issued several updates on its social media page this morning with travellers urged to keep up to date with the latest information.
Earlier, Network Rail said icicles in tunnels were causing overhead line and signalling faults at Edinburgh Haymarket before they were cleared by staff.

In an update on social media, ScotRail said: “@NetworkRailSCOT has now fixed the fault.
“We’re working hard to get services running back to schedule, but some delays and cancellations are expected due to trains and crew being out of position.
“Thank you for your continued patience this morning.”
